2014 Playoff Scenarios: How FC Dallas can clinch

There isn't a lot standing in the way now.

Matthew Emmons-USA TODAY Sports

FC Dallas is on the brink of clinching a playoff berth for the first time since 2011. Oscar Pareja's club can do so this weekend with a win in Vancouver or with a little help outside of Canada.

Here is how the official playoff scenario looks for FC Dallas going into this weekend:

FC Dallas will clinch a berth in the MLS Cup Playoffs IF

FC Dallas win vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday
OR

Portland Timbers lose vs. San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday
OR

FC Dallas tie vs. Vancouver Whitecaps FC on Saturday
AND

Portland Timbers tie vs. San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday

So from the looks of things, FCD is in good standing to make the playoffs again. D.C. United and Real Salt Lake can do the same this weekend. LA and Seattle have already clinched.

On the other end, the San Jose Earthquakes, Colorado Rapids and Chicago Fire are all in danger of being eliminated from the postseason. They could join Montreal and Chivas USA.
