Dan Hunt: We were in the mix to get Sasha Kljestan

Getting a long-term contract fell through.

While the world waited this week to see what the LA Galaxy might do with the transfer market, it turns out FC Dallas was also looking to make big moves of their own.

Dan Hunt told fans in his weekly Facebook chat that FCD was indeed in the mix to get former Chivas USA midfielder and United States national teamer Sasha Kljestan from Belgium side Anderlecht.

We went through the proper protocol and processes with the league to bring Sacha Kljestan to FC Dallas. We had the space to add him but the league was not able to come to a long-term contract agreement with him. I know that the guys at the league office worked extremely hard to make this happen in conjunction with Sacha and his agent Richard Motzkin. Unfortunately it didn't work out this time but there is always the January window.

There you go. Good to hear that FCD was indeed working to upgrade their roster with someone like Kljestan.

FCD got the space due to trading away Andrew Jacobson recently, for now the club does have room to make a trade or sign someone that isn't under contract according to Hunt:

We still have the cap space to add someone who is out of contract and also add a player via trade within the league. You will not see a player that is currently under contract internationally arrive at this club at this time.

If anything, we could be in for an interesting winter with FCD looking to make additions like this one.
