View From the East Stand: Ah-Keen-Deli!

Started off August with a dream start bagging all 3 points at the Stubhub center. A shutout to boot too!

Jayne Kamin-Oncea-USA TODAY Sports

A late game in Carson, California kept a few people in Dallas awake as FC Dallas took to the Stubhub center to face a familiar struggling Chivas USA. Despite their troubles this was not going to be a cake walk by any means. Last year it was hit and miss with Dallas losing a nightmare game at the Stubhub center, then drawing and ruining the 4th of July last year, and then us finally getting 3 points from the Goats the 3rd time of asking in LA. So definitely not a push over team for FC Dallas, but then again are there any push over teams for Dallas not named the Dynamo?

A Little Luck?

A little confused by the MLSsoccer.com analysis claiming that we were 'outplayed'. In my mind passes completed and possession don't mean much when you can't score or create opportunities. In the departments of shots and corners it was dead even. There were only 2 really shaky moments of the game Sunday night but other than that I fail to see how we were seriously outplayed unless the only stat you care about is possession. This was a nice away performance that got the maximum points and did it without the 50 shots the Whitecaps had on us not too long ago.

Counter-Attack

That counter attacking formula produced a good amount of scoring opportunities playing away from home. FC Dallas had an equal number of shots, and had a 5-4 edge on shots on target (you know, the ones that count) according to the MLSsoccer stats. Possession is one thing you can give up on the road, as long as you produce the opportunities this team produced you can let the other team have the ball all day. It did make for a long game though giving up possession.

A few moments made me hold my breath, such as the dropped corner from Fernandez and the Torres header from about 9 yards. Once Zimmerman was put out it felt like the bus was firmly parked and the game slowed down immensely. The best part of the latter part of the game was definitely Castillo's shot that hit the post agonizingly.

Was anyone else fully confident of a win going into this game? Is that really how you pronounce Akindele's name? Is this the year we make it to the playoffs?! Get back to me in the comments!
