Chicago Fire snap FC Dallas' unbeaten mark with 1-0 win

A late Robert Earnshaw goal seals the victory for the Fire.

The streak is now over for FC Dallas. After going unbeaten since the end of May, FC Dallas struggled to get any offense going on Saturday night in a 1-0 loss to the Chicago Fire.

A goal in the 83rd minute by Robert Earnshaw sealed the three points for the Fire and the Brimstone Cup for the third straight season.

A Chicago corner kick was deflected out of the box and chased down by Jeff Larentowicz who immediately sent the ball back into play where an unmarked Earnshaw nodded it home just inside the bottom corner for the eventual game-winner.

FC Dallas had to roll out a new lineup yet again due to injuries and suspensions. Kellyn Acosta returned to the starting lineup in the midfield while second year midfielder Ryan Hollingshead earned a start as well. Neither change was effective enough to get the attack going on the night for the visitors.

One of the best chances came late in the half from Fabian Castillo who threatened to put the visitors on the board after Tesho Akindele found the young Colombian out wide. Castillo got around Larentowicz, creating plenty of space in the box and taking a quick shot at the near post, but Chicago keeper Sean Johnson showed quick feet himself with a kick save to keep Dallas off the board.

Hollingshead had a chance early in the second half, but his left-footed volley clipped the crossbar.

FC Dallas returns to action next weekend in Utah as they battle Western Conference rivals Real Salt Lake.
