FC Dallas vs Chivas USA: Preview and Prediction

Can FC Dallas extend their six-game unbeaten run in sunny California?

Tim Heitman-USA TODAY Sports

The month of August is here as FC Dallas is back on the road this weekend as they battle Chivas USA at the Stub Hub Center.

Chivas USA have lost back-to-back games coming off a club-record equaling four-game winning streak, last a 3-0 loss at the Colorado Rapids that left them seven points behind the final playoff position.

FC Dallas Notes:

Injury report:

Out: Kellyn Acosta (knee), George John (knee), Hendry Thomas (ACL tear), Chris Seitz (quad strain)

Run of play goals. According to the club's game notes, Dallas began the season with Michel and Mauro Diaz setting up goals via on set pieces. The superior service helped free kicks account for eight of Dallas' first 12 goals. Without the duo (both were lost to injury during the month of May), FC Dallas relied on goals from the run of play. Prior to Michel's penalty kick goal against Vancouver last weekend, FC Dallas had scored 19 consecutive goals during the run of play (including U.S. Open Cup matches).

Castillo returning. Even though Fabian Castillo was suspended for the last month of play, FC Dallas will get him back this weekend now that his suspension is over. Including Dallas' U.S. Open Cup wins against San Antonio, Houston and Carolina, Castillo has recorded a goal or an assist in each of his last six matches - a total of five goals and four assists. In other words, get him the ball.

Youth movement. FC Dallas has 11 players under the age of 22, 14 under the age of 23 and 16 are 24 or younger. Of the nine teams in the Western Conference, FC Dallas (25.5) is the fourth‐youngest [VAN (24.4) COL (25.1) and RSL (25.4).

Prediction:

Despite going winless on eight-straight road games, this is a game FC Dallas nearly has to win here. Results this weekend have helped FC Dallas in the standings, meaning they have to take care of business here against a weaker team. Getting Castillo and Andres Escobar back should really drive the attack but so should involving the likes of Blas Perez and Tesho Akindele. Bottling up Erick Torres like we've mentioned in our previews and scouting is key on defense. FCD should win this game and I think they will here.

FC Dallas 2, Chivas USA 1
