Rankings Recap: FC Dallas sitting on top

FC Dallas is at the top of most power rankings this week.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

After an impressive win over Real Salt Lake with only ten men for over half the match, FC Dallas is at the top of most power rankings this week. Now they travel to Chicago looking to improve on their ten game unbeaten run.

Are these rankings right about FCD? Where do you think the Hoops belong? Which team surprised you?

Rank: 1 (Last week: 4)

Comment: Unbeaten in 10, a streak that now goes back to the end of May. They're unplayable when they're whole, and with Zach Loyd at center back can actually scramble a bit in defense. But those red cards -- deserved or not -- will start to get real, real heavy.

Rank: 1 (Last week: 3)

Comment: Playing a man down for half the match, FCD dug deep to beat Real Salt Lake 2-1. Fabian Castillo continued his rampant ways, scoring the eventual game winner, and Michel proved dangerous from set pieces again. This team looks more impressive with each passing week.

Sports Illustrated

Rank: 3 (Last week: 5)

Comment: Despite a soft second yellow card to Blas Perez at 0-0, Dallas recovered to win by a single goal against RSL, taking a 2-0 lead before Olmes García’s consolation in stoppage time. Fabián Castillo scored the winner, extending his goalscoring streak to three games. FCD's last loss came May 31.

Rank: 1 (Last week: 3)

Comment: 10-man win? At home? Against least week’s number one? Having built a two-goal lead, and you haven’t lost since May? I just can’t ask Dallas to do more to be number one.

The Oregonian

Rank: 1 (Last week: 3)

Comment: Any doubts the "Negative Nancys" harbored about their mental toughness were answered in a gritty 2-1 win against Real Salt Lake Friday night, extending their unbeaten streak to 10 games. They closed out the win despite playing a man down for the entire second half after Blaz Perez was sent off near the end of the first half. They'll play at Real Salt Lake Sept. 6.
