FC Dallas vs San Jose Earthquakes: Game Grades

Anytime a team wins 5-0, the grades tend to be higher.

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

Starting XI

Raul Fernandez - 6

A decent game for Fernandez. While it is easy to look good in a big win, Fernandez may have been one of the darker spots in the game for FC Dallas. Too many dropped balls. I do enjoy his athletic ability but at some point that is going to get him into trouble when he relies on it too much to make a save.

Jair Benitez - 6

A solid return to the field for Benitez. He didn't push too hard and played pretty compact. The question will continue to be as the seasons rolls on, can he unseat Moises Hernandez?

Matt Hedges - 8

Just a solid overall performance from the team captain. He's calm on the ball, looked good in the air and this partnership with Zach Loyd is actually starting to be something special.

Zach Loyd - 8

I think if he starts at center back this weekend we'll know a thing or two about where Oscar Pareja wants him for the rest of the season. Each time out he has looked very good there with Hedges.

Je-Vaughn Watson - 7

I continue to say it, this is Je-Vaughn's best position moving forward. Yes, it isn't always pretty but nothing about his game ever is. Also, he played 15 minutes at center back? What the?

Andres Escobar - 6

Can we find him some shorts that fit please?

Victor Ulloa - 9

Give me another player this season that has been as consistent as Victor. Yeah, you can't do it can you? This game was another example of how good he has become for this team. Even had Chris Wondolowski scored that PK I wouldn't have faulted him too much for causing it.

Michel - 7

Those set pieces are just a thing of beauty. He has also improved on his ability to hold the ball in the midfield as well, which is good considering how much of a turnover machine he was in the past.

Ryan Hollingshead - 6

Considering how he took a year off, seeing him get minutes in this manner at this stage in the season is pretty impressive in my eyes. The guy just works his tail off. I do believe the more minutes he earns the better we'll see him get.

Fabian Castillo - 9

Two goals and one assists. Just a ridiculous effort from the Colombian. That first goal was all him. Funny that had he just gone down on the foul from Jason Hernandez it could have been a very different game because I think Hernandez would have gotten a red for that foul. I'm glad he didn't though as that first goal was cheeky and the second one was about as good as we've seen out of him.

Tesho Akindele - 8

Lets be honest for a second, those goals weren't the prettiest but they all count. At the very least we're getting a poacher out of Akindele, which isn't the worst thing to have on the field.

Oscar Pareja - 8

To be able to get his team mentally prepared for this game following the USOC loss on Tuesday was as impressive as you'll see in the coaching world. But to continue to rely more on the youth shows you how good of a coach he really is here.

Blas Perez - 7

I always love the effort that Perez puts in, even when it comes off the bench.

Peter Luccin - 6

Continues to do well off the bench in those moments when you just need a smart player to help kill off a game.

Kellyn Acosta - 5

So good to see him back on the field. At least for now the fullback depth is starting to get good again.
