FC Dallas vs San Jose Earthquakes: Preview and prediction

Can FC Dallas bounce back following Tuesday's USOC loss?

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

The San Jose Earthquakes and FC Dallas will meet for the final time this season at Buck Shaw Stadium on Saturday night. So far this season San Jose has won the two previous meetings by a 2-1 scoreline.

The Quakes find themselves eight points behind the final playoff placing, their undefeated run now at four games following a 2-2 draw at the LA Galaxy last weekend. FC Dallas are on an eight-game undefeated streak of their own, sitting in third place in the division following a 3-1 home win against the Colorado Rapids.

FC Dallas Notes:

Injury report:

Out: George John (knee), Hendry Thomas (ACL tear), Chris Seitz (quad strain), Moises Hernandez (foot)

Did not travel: Walker Zimmerman, Mauro Diaz, Adam Moffat

Rookie run. FC Dallas' first round selection in the 2014 MLS SuperDraft, Tesho Akindele is closing in on the title of top rookie in FC Dallas history. According to the club's game notes, the Colorado School of Mines' product (978) currently ranks ninth in minutes played for rookies in franchise history. Akindele is tied with Abe Thompson (4 goals in 2005) and two goals behind Aleksey Korol (5 goals in 2000) for goals scored by an FC Dallas rookie.

Castillo rolling. Including Dallas' U.S. Open Cup wins against San Antonio, Houston and Carolina, Fabian Castillo has recorded a goal or an assist in each of his last eight matches - a total of six goals and four assists.

Homegrown depth. Dallas' Homegrown players have logged 2,681 minutes this season (35GP, 31GS). Danny Garcia played 282 minutes in central midfield. Moises Hernandez (693 MP) and Victor Ulloa (1,294 MP) have seen increased minutes. Kellyn Acosta (412 MP) is recovering from an injury suffered in training. Against Philadelphia on July 4, Victor Ulloa became only the second Homegrown in franchise history to log more than 1,000 minutes in a season. Only Colorado has logged more HGP minutes this season in league play than FCD.

Prediction:

Tuesday was tough for all of us but the turn around and now new injuries to key players make this game really tough for FC Dallas. A draw would be about as good as a result if all things go well but San Jose is playing very well these days and are looking to push towards a playoff spot. As much as I hate to be negative, I see the regular season unbeaten run that FCD is on ending tonight.

FC Dallas 1, San Jose 2
