Summer friendlies rarely bring out a ton of excitement. That was the case on Wednesday night as FC Dallas fell 2-0 to English Premier League side Aston Villa.

The EPL side got a late first half goal from Andreas Weiman and a goal just after half time from Charles N'Zogbia.

FC Dallas manager Oscar Pareja used two sets of lineups in this game to allow younger players time to get minutes on the field in a big match. Pareja's first 11 contained Mauro Diaz, who got his first start since the end of April.

Villa grabbed the lead just before the half after FCD had a decent run of possession. Darren Bent and Weiman recovered a ball near midfield and started a quick counter attack. Weiman overlapped Bent on the left wing, the veteran forward would play Weiman into the penalty box where he would tuck away a shot past FC Dallas keeper Raul Fernandez.

Aston Villa doubled their lead just after halftime. A bad pass was picked off by Gabby Agbonlahor. Rookie defender Nick Walker nearly tracked down Agbonlahor but his tackle gave Villa a free kick outside the penalty box. N'Zogbia would punish FCD by hammering a shot around the wall and past keeper Richard Sanchez.

FCD did have a couple sparks in this game including a run by Homegrown midfielder Danny Garcia. The Homegrown attacker worked well with Fabian Castillo in the 60th minute with a quick one-two pass at the top of the Villa penalty box. Castillo would work the ball out wide to Michel on the left wing but the Villa backline would do well to get the ball out of danger.

FC Dallas will return to action this weekend in league play as they travel to the Pacific Northwest to battle the Vancouver Whitecaps on Sunday evening.
