FC Dallas midfielder Danny Garcia has been named to the 20-man roster for the inaugural MLS Homegrown Game.
Originally FC Dallas opted not to send any Homegrown players to this game due to their league match with Chivas USA the day before this showcase game. Garcia hasn't seen any first team action in a couple weeks as he just recovered from a hamstring injury. This is a perfect way for him to get some minutes on a big platform.
Garcia joins Philadelphia Union midfielder Zach Pfeffer and Real Salt Lake defender Carlos Salcedo in replacing Montreal Impact's Karl W. Ouimette and Wandrille Lefevre, both of whom had to withdraw from the game due to the Impact's CONCACAF Champions League group match that has been scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 5. Seattle Sounders FC defender DeAndre Yedlin was named to the AT&T MLS All-Star team.
FC Dallas' 11th Homegrown player, Garcia has started all four games he has played this season. He was the ACC Freshman of the Year in his only season with the North Carolina Tar Heels in 2012 and was a member of the U.S. U-20 World Cup team.
Including Garcia (282), Victor Ulloa (1,114), Moises Hernandez (512) and Kellyn Acosta (412), FC Dallas' Homegrown products have logged 2,320 minutes this season. Ulloa and Acosta have both recorded assists.
The game will take place on August 4, at Providence Park in Portland. It will kick off at 9 p.m. CT and will be streamed live on WatchESPN and MLSsoccer.com.
Twenty of MLS's Homegrown players will take on the Portland Timbers U-23s as part of the festivities leading up to the 2014 AT&T MLS All-Star Game.
