July Outlook: How FC Dallas can continue to improve

New, 6 comments

A new month is here, time to see where the points will appear for FC Dallas in July.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

The month of June is in the books and FC Dallas earned five solid points in the three league games while advancing through two US Open Cup games. In all, a good month after the horrors of May.

But now July is here, and FC Dallas some time to get back on track with some home games ahead in the schedule.

Philadelphia Union - home - July 4 (8:00 pm)

The first big one is this week, a Friday match with the Union at home. Philadelphia struggled for the most part this season but they are on the uptick as they've won two of their last three games and have scored nine goals in those last three matches.

Carolina Railhawks - away - July 9 (6:30 pm ) - USOC

This won't be an easy game in the quarterfinals of the 2014 Lamar Hunt US Open Cup. Carolina has proven to have talent as they beat two straight MLS sides to advance here. They did do it at home so there is that as well. FCD will have guys like Fabian Castillo available for this one, a player I don't think Carolina can touch. Win this game and FCD gets the winner of Portland/Seattle next month.

New England Revolution - home - July 19 (8:00 pm)

Which New England side will we see later this month? The one that was lighting up the place for a solid month? Or the one that struggles to do anything productive at all in the attack? Time will tell but this is a game I think FCD has to win no matter what.

Aston Villa - home - July 23 (8:00 pm) - Friendly

I'm all for friendlies as long as we aren't playing key players for the entire thing. Get the young guys a start and let them go at it. Heck, even call up some Academy kids to play in this one.

Vancouver Whitecaps - away - July 27 (4:00 pm)

Tough road match to finish out the month. Vancouver has been very good at home this season and have been one of those teams that just seems to be on the edge of breaking out into a big time contender this year.

This month is all about the continual step forward for this team. May didn't create a big hole but it did create a spot that they had to climb out of here. June was a good step in the right direction but gaining the maximum points at home in those two match along with a point in Vancouver would be huge.

Also advancing in the USOC would be fairly big as well as this team has shown that they want to win that tournament a little more than what we've seen in recent years.

I'm confident in seeing seven points this month, but I leave it to you. What would be a successful month for FCD? Just five points? Seven? All nine? Let's discuss that below.
