You have to love this time of the year, spring is in full bloom, FC Dallas is sitting at the top of the league table and now the player salaries have been released for the first time in 2014. That's right, the Major League Soccer Player's Union released their first list of player salaries for the 2014 season.
I suggest taking some of these numbers with a grain of salt. Given how teams can pay down salaries against the salary cap in this league with allocation money (also known as monopoly money, fun money, etc.). I would say these are more of a guideline than anything as several players have told me in the past that these numbers are entirely the true numbers that the players are earning.
With that being said here are the new figures for 2014. (view the full league's salaries here)
|Player Name||Base Salary||Total Compensation|
Escobar's number - Wow. I guess it is fair to say, he got the David Ferreira slot in the salary cap. There has been some issues with the club saying he isn't a Designated Player and the league's press website saying that he is one. But these numbers may put that debate to rest once and for all. He is the highest paid player on the team now. It could have a lot to do with the loan from Dynamo Kiev but boy that is a big figure for a guy that has barely cracked the lineup through five games.
Tex's numbers appear right - I'm perfectly fine with him earning what he is at right now. I still believe that here in the next couple weeks we'll see more of him on the field and he'll finally contribute to the attack.
Jacobson's number - I have to admit, $200k for his base salary sort of threw me. He's earning a decent amount more than Thomas.
Players who don't count towards the cap this year - just a friendly reminder that Acosta, Akindele, Garcia, Gonzalez, Sanchez, Top, Ulloa, Walker, and Zimmerman. Either these players are HGPs, Generation adidas, or rookies.
Loyd's new deal - Looks like he got a decent bump in pay. Last year his base salary was $92k, now he is well over that.
Bargin bin - Dude, Keel's numbers are a tad ridiculous when you consider what FCD has gotten in return for him.
