MLS Fantasy Manager Update: Week One

FCD players look to be in good shape to put up some points at home.

Editorial note: Each week here at, we will take a look at FC Dallas and other MLS players you should be looking at to add to your Fantasy Manager team. To join the BDS group use code 127-1732.

The first week is always a challenging one for fantasy managers. This will help you make the hard choices for round one of MLS Fantasy Manager.

First, we will take a look at FC Dallas. Then, we will dive into other players in MLS.

FC Dallas

FC Dallas is at home against Montreal in the first week of the 2014 campaign. The odds are in FCD's favor with Marco Di Vaio being suspended for the first three games of the season and Patrice Bernier not being available. FCD should be able to produce a decent performance and rack up points in fantasy.

Who to start

Fabian Castillo $7.0 - With the form this guy has been in so far for preseason, there's no way I'm giving my fantasy captain's arm band to anyone else.

Kellyn Acosta $5.5 - Acosta is another guy who has had a great preseason and continues to impress at right back. Even with the absence of George John in the backline, FCD's defense should be handle the Impact's attack.

Who not to start

Andres Escobar $6.5 - We don't really know a lot about this guy yet. Plus, it seems he has been dealing with a minor injury.

David Texeira $8.0 - Similar to Escobar, we don't know what he will do when he gets on the pitch. That's another problem, we don't even know if he will get on the pitch at all Saturday.

The first week can go many different ways. Sometimes defense proves to be superior, and other times offenses explode. You can never really know what will happen. But, there are some very favorable matchups for home teams this week.

Who to start

Gaston Fernandez $8.0 - This guy has been terrific for Portland in the preseason. With Portland being one of the best home teams in the MLS, I'm thinking he will take advantage of Philadelphia's lack of chemistry.

Michael Harrington $7.5 - Yes, another Portland player. Like I said, Portland is almost unbeatable at home. The Timber's backline could very well produce a shutout.

Robbie Keane $11.0 - The Los Angeles Galaxy play Real Salt Lake at home this week. This will be one of the better games in week one. RSL will be missing starting center back Chris Schuler due to injury. Look for LA to try and take advantage of the backline.

Who not to start

Kekuta Manneh $6.5 - Manneh looks like the odd man out of the starting lineup in Vancouver with the recent acquisition of Pedro Morales from La Liga side Malage CF. If he does get minutes, it will most likely be as a late substitute.

Felipe $8.0 - Montreal has a tough task ahead of them being on the road at FCD and being without starters Marco Di Vaio, Patrice Bernier, and Nelson Rivas. I wouldn't start anyone from Montreal, personally.

Sheanon Williams $8.0 - Williams is 50/50 on playing against Portland due to a right quad strain. Even if he does play, he will not be one hundred percent, and will be on the road playing against a dangerous Portland side.

Bye week: Colorado Rapids, San Jose Earthquakes, Toronto FC
