A late header by Matt Hedges helped give FC Dallas a 1-1 draw on Saturday night in Kansas City against the defending MLS Cup Champions Sporting KC.

Sporting KC were mere moments away from winning their first game of the 2014 season when Hedges scored his first goal of the year off a set piece by Michel. Just minutes earlier the hosts scored a goal from one of their own big defenders, Aurelien Collin.

Hedges was also key in the final seconds of the match as well in saving a goal from Sporting rookie Alex Martinez. The third round pick sent in a blistering shot that Hedges cleared off the goal line.

Sporting controlled the possession early in this match. FC Dallas struggled to get any sort of offense in the first half though their best chance came right in stoppage-time with a striker from forward Blas Perez. The Panama national team striker sent in a shot that sailed just a bit wide of Eric Kronberg's net.

Sporting made the first breakthrough in the match in the 81st minute with the header from Collin on a Benny Feilhaber corner kick.

FC Dallas ended the night with just seven total shots and two corner kicks to Sporting's 18 shots and 12 corner kicks.

The draw keeps FCD unbeaten in the early season at 1-0-1. The boys in red will return to action next Saturday when they host Chivas USA at Toyota Stadium.
