MLS Fantasy Manager: The Guys Up Top

Time to talk about forwards when building your MLS Fantasy roster.

Victor Decolongon

The MLS Fantasy Manager season is a little over a week away and you need to finish building your roster. Today we will look at forwards.

Forwards tend to be on the expensive side. So you need to choose them carefully. If you're going to use an attacking formation like a 3-4-3, pick two expensive guys. If you're only going to have one or two strikers that will start, I'd suggest you pick one guy who you know will produce consistently.

Here are five strikers to take a seriously look at grabbing.

Robbie Keane $11.0 - Obvious one here. This guy can flat out score goals. I don't see him stopping anytime soon. Keane has tallied 38 goals and 18 assists since joining the Los Angeles Galaxy. He is definitely worth the $11.0 million. Get him. He is currently selected by 17.2 percent of fantasy managers.

Jermain Defoe $10.5 - Defoe is a big time signing for Toronto FC. This is tricky. He hasn't played a minute in Major League Soccer as of yet. I wouldn't pick him up just yet. But, once he adjusts to the style of play here, he will be rolling in fantasy points. He is currently selected by 11.5 percent of fantasy managers.

Gaston Fernandez $8.0 - The new signing for Portland has been in terrific form in preseason. His production will only increase when Diego Valeri is fully healthy and feeding him balls. I expect Fernandez to score a lot of goals for the Timbers this year. He may the guy that could take them to the next level and make a deep playoff run. He is currently selected by 5.1 percent of fantasy managers.

Will Bruin $8.0 - Bruin had somewhat of a down year last season for the Houston Dynamo. He scored six less goals than the previous season. I expect him to come on strong this season and propel his numbers back to where they were in 2012. He is currently selected by 12.3 percent of fantasy managers.

Darren Mattocks $7.5/Kekuta Manneh $6.5 - These guys are young and very talented. Whoever Vancouver decides to give the starting role to, pick them up. Especially if it's Manneh. They are both cheap options that will get plenty of minutes. With the absence of Camilo Sanvezzo, one of these guys are going to have to step up and fill that hole. Mattocks is currently selected by 3.8 percent of fantasy managers. Manneh is currently selected by 14.7 percent of fantasy managers.

Others to consider: Federico Higuain (CLB) $10.5, Alvaro Saborio (RSL) $10.5, Erick Torres (CHV) $8.0, Maximiliano Urruti (POR) $7.0.
