FC Dallas ends up with a first round SuperDraft pick after Toronto re-signs Jackson

Now the SuperDraft got a little more interesting...

Eric Hartline-USA TODAY Sports

For weeks I've been trying to decide whether or not it was even worth writing a single thing about next month's MLS SuperDraft due to the fact that FC Dallas wouldn't be picking until the 3rd round. Now it appears that our interest should pick up a little.

Last winter when FC Dallas sent midfielder Jackson to the Canadian side, the return on the deal was a conditional pick, most likely a second round pick. The season went on and Jackson didn't meet any of the conditions that were in place based on playing time or goals scored. But when the club re-signed Jackson to a new contract, it met a different condition on the deal according to reports out of Toronto (I was able to confirm this with a couple league sources as well).

So hello first round pick - and kudos to Luetchy for point it out on Friday as well.

Now I'm sure you are asking which pick. More than likely this will be the worst of the four Toronto picks currently on the board in the first round - which means the 19th overall pick (previously from Seattle in a deal that brought the Sounders Stefan Frei). Toronto also has the 6th, 9th and 11th picks.

With this news, we'll begin to pick our coverage as well. I would imagine Fernando Clavijo and Oscar Pareja will work at getting some other moves in this draft, similar to how they worked last year's to get Rookie of the Year winner Tesho Akindele.
