FC Dallas set to play in preseason tournament in Austin

Some preseason plans are starting to come to fruition for FC Dallas.

Greg Bartram-USA TODAY Sports

While most of the league has already been gearing up for the 2015 preseason with trips to Portland, Arizona or Florida, FC Dallas was one of the few teams to not announce any plans.

That is until now as the Austin Statesmen is reporting that the newly made USL PRO side Austin Aztex will be hosting a four-team preseason tournament with FC Dallas, Columbus Crew SC and D.C. United.

The games will be played at the Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of Texas campus.

The preseason event - Austin's first experience with top-quality U.S. soccer - will consist of a semifinal doubleheader Friday, Feb. 13, and a championship and consolation match Feb. 15. The first-day pairings are Crew SC vs. FC Dallas and D.C. United vs. the Aztex.

Austin is the new USL affiliate for Columbus, so seeing them in this tournament makes a lot of sense. For FCD, it is a nice idea to stay in the state for a change in the preseason.

More than likely this means FCD will begin the preseason in Frisco, then head out somewhere (my guess is Mexico again) before going to Austin for this tournament. Once we get the full details on the preseason we will pass them along to you all.

What do you make of this preseason tournament? Think you will make the trip down to Austin for it?
