With the 2014 MLS Expansion Draft just a week away, FC Dallas had several roster moves to make to get ready for it. Today the club announced that they have re-signed keeper Chris Seitz while declining options on 10 other contracts for 2015.
Seitz will join newly acquired keeper Dan Kennedy as the club's two main keepers. Seitz went 8-4-4 this past year with 44 saves.
The club exercised options on Tesho Akindele, Fabian Castillo, Jesse Gonzalez, Moises Hernandez, Ryan Hollingshead, Stephen Keel, Dan Kennedy, Michel, Blas Perez, Brian Span and Victor Ulloa.
FCD also extended a bona fide offer to Je-Vaughn Watson as well, which allows the club to retain his player rights.
But the bigger news may be the 10 players that saw their contracts not get picked up. FCD declined options on Jair Benitez, Walter Cabrera, Andres Escobar, Raul Fernandez, George John, Peter Luccin, Adam Moffat, Hendry Thomas, Jonathan Top and Nick Walker.
It should be noted that FCD can still negotiate new deals with these 10 players who had their options declined.
There is some big names on that list of declined options, with one DP slot opening up as Escobar's loan likely comes to an end unless the club is working on a deal with him. It is also a bit surprising to hear that Thomas didn't get his option picked up but I would imagine the club will work on bringing him back at a cheaper deal.
One more Homegrown goes down with Top. He never quite made a big impact like some thought he could have.
What do you all make of the 10 that saw their contracts not get picked up?
