George John taken in MLS Expansion Draft by New York City FC

John missed all of 2014 with a knee injury.

The madness of the MLS Expansion Draft is over as FC Dallas ended up losing defender George John, who was selected by New York City FC in the seventh round.

John missed all of 2014 with a knee injury and saw his option not picked up by the club earlier this month. The veteran defender had knee surgery back in July and then again in October.

Should John get healthy though he'll join the likes of Frank Lampard and David Villa during New York City FC's expansion season in MLS.

FC Dallas ended up getting a nice $50k in allocation for losing John in the Expansion Draft as well. A decent return considering there was almost zero chance that he was going to return to Frisco in 2015 with the club. So in some ways, today was a massive win for FCD.

Below is the full result of today's draft:

  1. Donovan Ricketts (Portland)
  2. Tony Cascio (Colorado)
  3. Jalil Anibaba (Seattle)
  4. Pedro Ribeiro (Philadelphia)
  5. Lewis Neal (DCU)
  6. Jairo Arrieta (Columbus)
  7. Health Pearce (Montreal)
  8. Danny Mwanga (Colorado)
  9. Mark Sherrod (Houston)
  10. Eric Gehrig (Columbus)

New York:

  7. George John (FC Dallas)
