FC Dallas will have to wait just a little longer to clinch a playoff berth. The Hoops dropped their 11th game of the season in pretty bad fashion on Saturday night as the Vancouver Whitecaps dominated play in a 2-0 win.
Sebastien Fernandez scored two first half goals in the win to pull the Whitecaps within five points of FC Dallas in the Western Conference with just three games to play.
Fernandez got the Whitecaps on the board in the 14th minute of the match. Mauro Rosales sent in a lofty ball into the penalty box where Fernandez got a head on the ball and just beat Raul Fernandez who got a hand to the ball but wasn't able to push it over the goal.
The Whitecaps and Fernandez weren't done as they got the second goal of the game in the 18th minute. Again Rosales found Fernandez on a counter attack, the 24-year old attacker got around one defender and beat Fernandez who was coming off his line to make a play on the ball.
FC Dallas nearly pulled one back in the 33rd minute however with Blas Perez. The forward almost had his fifth goal in the last month of play but was just a hair offside.
Neither team were able to do a whole lot in the second half as the play died down a considerable amount with the ball spending a lot of time in the middle part of the field.
The loss was Dallas' first multi-goal loss since May. It was also the fifth time this season that Dallas has been shutout. FCD can still reach the post season tonight if they get help from San Jose in their match with Portland. A win by the Quakes will clinch a spot for FCD.
Dallas will return to the field next weekend when they return home to battle the LA Galaxy.
