It's getting down to the wire, and I guess you could say things are getting pretty serious...
Here are three things to look for in the final month of the regular season for the Hoops:
Will different players continue to play vital roles?
The strength of FC Dallas has been their versatility. Victor Ulloa, Tesho Akindele, Adam Moffat, Raul Fernandez, Moises Hernandez, Zach Loyd at center back. This is the time of the year, with everything on the line, when you start to know who has been playing over their head all season and who might have some lasting impact throughout the season.
Can Dallas continue to avoid critical mistakes?
Early-on, Dallas looked not very good when they made crucial mistakes. Guys got red cards. Chances weren't finished. Guys got red cards.
The difference between winning and losing a match down the stretch could be balanced on a crucial mistake for one side or the other.
Who is going to be a late-season hero?
The storyline of "everyone's contributing" is great. At some point, though, the narrative on any team becomes about specific plays, where individual players make clutch plays at key points in a game or playoff run. The hero this time of year may be the guy who makes a Blas-like goal from 30 yards with no angle, or it could simply be the guy who makes the play or finishes like he's paid to do.
If you're looking for a likely hero, you can target Fabian Castillo, who has been spectacular for some time now. If you're looking for an unlikely one, maybe take a look at Mauro Diaz. Diaz has been injured and I don't know anything about his fitness, but it seems that a player like him could really start to gain back his confidence and make a huge contribution down the stretch.
Who do you think is well-positioned to be the FC Dallas hero?
