In a game where FC Dallas needed three points to lock up third place, they cracked under pressure in a 2-0 loss on Saturday night to the Portland Timbers.

Portland was in desperate need of three points as they push towards the playoffs in the final weekend of the regular season. In front of 17,231 at Toyota Stadium Portland got a late first half goal from Darlington Nagbe and a second half goal from Maximiliano Urriti.

Dallas struggled to make any connections in the first 45 minutes except for one cross from Je-Vaughn Watson in the 38th minute. Watson found the head of David Texeira but unfortunately for Dallas, Portland keeper Donovan Ricketts was there to make his first save of the game.

Portland made the first breakthrough 43 minutes in on a fairly fortunate deflection. Nagbe, who struggled to find the back of the net made a cut through the midfield and fired off a long-range shot that hit off Zach Loyd and found the back of the net.

The goal was Nagbe's first of the season.

Dallas nearly got on the board midway through the second half on free kick from Michel. In the 62nd minute, Michel sent in a free kick from the edge of the penalty box to Fabian Castillo. Unfortunately for Dallas, Castillo would make contact on the ball with his hand to guide the ball into the back of the net.

Moments later in the 66th minute, Dallas would have another argument for a goal called back. Michel sent the ball into the box where a Portland player nearly headed it out before Castillo got a foot on it and crossed it into the box to Blas Perez. But as the club was about to celebrate the goal, the linesman on the near side waved it off and called a corner kick on the play instead.

Portland would settle things down and in the 82nd minute they would add an insurance goal from Urruit. After a brief possession spell in the Dallas half, Urriti broke free near the top of the box and fired off a shot for his 10th goal of the season.

FC Dallas will enter the playoffs next week with a home match against either the Timbers or the Vancouver Whitecaps on Wednesday in the Knockout Round.
