Thoughts From FC Dallas 5-1 Win Over USF

It is a preseason win....it is a preseason win.

I know I am a tad late getting to some thought from yesterday's game. While the 5-1 win for FC Dallas looks great on paper, I have to continue to remind myself that it is the preseason and it came against a college side that is months removed from their regular season.

That being said, the game went fairly well for FCD on Wednesday. Blas Perez scored a hat trick while Matt Hedges and Ryan Hollingshead added in goals of their own.

FCD is now 2-1-0 in preseason play and will face the Fort Lauderdale Strikers of the NASL on Saturday before returning to Texas on Sunday.

General thoughts:

Players still missing: Just like in the UAE, we were still missing George John, Raul Fernandez, Stephen Keel, Walker Zimmerman and Zach Loyd. We know Fernandez is likely out for the rest of this trip but will we see the other four this weekend when they face NASL side Fort Lauderdale? Let's hope we do. We also didn't see the following players on Wednesday: Eric Hassli, Peter Luccin, Brian Span, and London Woodberry.

Still no Hassli: If anything, the clock is ticking on his time here in Dallas. Really starting to wonder if we'll see him play at all this preseason.

Newcomers also missing: It really wasn't a shocker to see Hendry Thomas and Andres Escobar not play in yesterday's game. I would count on them to make an appearance this weekend though.

Academy kid gets minutes: One bright spot in the second half for me was seeing academy standout Aaron Meyer get some minutes. Oscar Pareja wasn't kidding when he said he wanted to get these young guys time with the first time.

Full 90 for three: It is always interesting to see which players go the full 90 in a preseason game. Yesterday Andrew Jacobson, Je-Vaughn Watson and Mauro Diaz all went the distance. Very promising to see Diaz play that much too. You have to think having him in for a full preseason will be highly beneficial to the team.
