Recapping The Rankings: Comebacks Galore

Two wild comebacks were the tale of the week for FCD.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

FC Dallas fought back to earn a victory and a draw at home respectively in the last week. Was this enough to give them their first boost in a while in the rankings? Will the points against lowly Western Conference foes affect whether or not FCD receives a boost in the rankings? The writers league-wide don't seem to be very impressed.

Rank: 15 (last week 15)

Comment: Dallas finally came up for air after three months under water. Hard to have much confidence, though, since they're working in new faces with a new formation and haven't shown the ability to get shutouts when they really, really need them.

Rank: 15 (last week 16)

Comment: A win over Chivas USA was followed with a home comeback draw against San Jose to break an 11-game winless streak. Granted, Blas Perez benefited from about as blatant a dive as you'll see, but Schellas Hyndman's side is back in the playoff places.

Comment: FCD's 11-game winless streak went by the wayside Wednesday night, with David Ferreira and Ramon Nunez providing a spark off the bench to lift the club to a win over Chivas USA. That momentum did not immediately carry over into Saturday's clash with San Jose, as the club went two goals down early, but a spirited comeback -- along with some controversy -- helped FCD salvage a 2-2 draw and remain relevant in the West.

Bleacher Report

Rank: 14 (last week Tied-14)

Comment: After the dust settled on Saturday night in Frisco, FC Dallas did mount a two-goal comeback, but they could only get one point out of their home match with San Jose. The draw officially dropped Schellas Hyndman's club out of the top five in the Western Conference standings. Starting with their Sept. 7 clash against Vancouver, the Hoops will have to fight tooth and nail if they want to find themselves in the postseason.

Soccer America

Rank: 15 (last week 15)

Comment: FCD stunned Chivas USA by scoring twice while a man down in a 3-1 win, then rallied again with goals by Blas Perez (his 10th of the season) and Michel to tie the Quakes, 2-2.
