Recapping The Rankings: Road Loss In Hostile Environment

After FC Dallas fell to PTFC, the rankings saw them plummet to new lows....

Steve Dykes-USA TODAY Sports

FC Dallas continued to struggle against the good teams in this league, falling to Portland 2-1 at Jeld-Wen Field.

Let's take a look at the rankings, keeping in mind that these rankings came out BEFORE the recent slump-busting victory over Chivas USA at the StubHub Center.

Rank: 15 (last week 13)

Comment: When FCD take the field against Chivas USA on Wednesday, it'll be almost three months to the day since their last victory. At least they've figured out a way to score again: Four goals in last two games is more than they recorded over the previous six.

Rank: 16 (last week 15)

Comment: Dallas' winless streak is now 11 following the loss in Portland. Whether manager Schellas Hyndman's postgame talk was "one louder" isn't known, but FCD looks nothing like a playoff team at the moment, despite the efforts of new signing Mauro Diaz.

Rank: 16 (last week 13)

Comment: Make that 11 straight matches without a win for FCD, which has become the most head-shake-inducing team in the league. New signing Mauro Diaz opened his MLS account and briefly brought FCD level with Portland, before a failure to contain Diego Valeri and Darlington Nagbe sealed the team's fate. The reprieve for the club may have manifested itself on the schedule, though, with a midweek game against lowly Chivas USA up next.

Bleacher Report

Rank: Tied-14 (last week 13)

Comment: FC Dallas are continuing to prove that the early bird does not in fact get the worm. However, the early birds of the MLS season do have an 11-match winless streak. That winless streak has sunk Schellas Hyndman's club down into seventh place in the West, and three points out of the final playoff spot.

Soccer America

Rank: 15 (last week 15)

Comment: Loss at Portland extends winless streak to 11. Mauro Diaz scored his first goal for the club.
