Winless Streak Reaches 11, FC Dallas Falls 2-1 At Portland

Mauro Diaz nets his first goal in loss.

The winless streak has extended for FC Dallas as they fall 2-1 to the Portland Timbers on Saturday night. Newly signed Designated Player Mauro Diaz scored his first goal for the Hoops but it wasn't enough as the Timbers edged out Dallas for their first win in a few weeks.

All the action came in the first half as Portland and Dallas traded punches. The Timbers got their first goal from Ryan Johnson in the 26th minute. Johnson took a pass from Diego Valeri and slotted it home by Dallas keeper Raul Fernandez.

Dallas responded two minutes later with Diaz's first MLS goal. A nifty passing sequence between Blas Perez and Fabian Castillo helped set up the goal. Castillo put in a great through ball into the penalty box for Diaz to run on to and the Argentine had no trouble getting the ball past Portland keeper Donovan Ricketts.

Unfortunately for Dallas the Timbers would respond just a few minutes later. Once again, Dallas-killer Darlington Nagbe put the Timbers back on top for good as he took a ball from Valeri as well.

The teams traded chances for the rest of the night but the best was one from Ramon Nunez in the late stages of the second half. Nunez fired a shot that caught Ricketts off guard but the veteran keeper was able to get enough on it to keep the game level.

Dallas will remain on the road, as they travel to Los Angeles for a midweek battle with Chivas USA before returning home next weekend for a match with the San Jose Earthquakes.
