FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman
We started off really well. We created some wonderful opportunities to score. Statistics, don't tell the whole story, but one of the things we asked our players to do is win the one-v-one duels and we won 64 percent of them in the first half. We created great chances. [Fabian] Castillo caused a lot of problems for them. Jackson caused a lot of problems for them. It came down to creating wonderful chances and not finishing them. The second half, we tried to pick up the urgency of play. We were doing okay and then the second goal came. [Ned] Grabavoy scores a great goal, and then the third goal came. I'm just disappointed with the result.
On what he told the team in the locker room after the game...
What I said to them was it's got to be pretty disappointing. They all must be pretty disappointed because I thought we played well enough to win the game, but then you look at the margin of difference in the score. It wasn't a 1-0 game. It wasn't a referee making mistakes. It was that we gave up soft goals and we didn't score our chances. So, for us, it's time to make some changes. That's what I said to them.
On playing Fabian Castillo as a forward...
We played Fabian [Castillo] as a forward today because we thought we could put [Real Salt Lake's] defense under pressure, which we did. At the same time, after we got scored on, it really became hard for us. It seemed like maybe the enthusiasm wasn't there. The urgency wasn't there. The confidence wasn't there. They came to life, and we kind of went to sleep. But, Fabian was very dangerous for us tonight in the attack.
What needs to happen to right the ship...
If you look at our last two games at home: the Chivas USA game, we had a great start and didn't finish. Tonight, we had a great start, and didn't finish. We need to continue doing the types of things that we've been doing, penetrating, creating scoring chances, and we've just got to finish. Players have their roles on the team. If you're a goalkeeper, everybody understands your role, keep the ball out of the goal. If you're an attacking player, everybody understands your role, finish your chances.
FC Dallas defender Stephen Keel
General thoughts on the match...
I felt we came out to play in the first half. We controlled the tempo but they got a goal on the counter-attack... Just an unlucky goal to give up... I don't really have words for what happened in the second half... It was a huge disappointment.
You have to look at the season big picture. It's not a sprint. It's a marathon but at the same time we cannot be losing 3-0 at home. That is completely unacceptable. Regardless of where you are on the table that is not acceptable... We have to clean it up.
FC Dallas midfielder Andrew Jacobson
On Real Salt Lake...
Real Salt Lake played ball. We kept going at them but once we were pushing for a goal and started leaving some space, they brought in some players and changed the game.
What can you do to improve moving forward?
We need to keep playing and not put our heads down. We cannot go into a shell or anything like that. We have to keep playing soccer. We've got to get better. We have to start progressing and gaining points. It was a great start to the season but that is over now. It's a long season and we've been saying this for what seems like a long time now, but we need to start getting better each week.
What do you think needs to change?
It's the little things. It is a game where just the smallest things can change a match. That goal [Salt Lake] scored was completely against the run of play. Sometimes a little luck can change the outcome of a match. If we get some luck and finish one of our early chances, maybe it's a different result. I don't think we can change too much. We need to keep playing our game.
FC Dallas forward Fabian Castillo
On the game from his perspective...
It was a very difficult game. We didn't get the three points. We lost three points at home. It was a game where we got scored on three times - three times when we shouldn't have been scored on...
On the early shot he took that was deflected by Kenny Cooper...
When I saw the replay, it looked like it was on target. Sometimes your teammates are able to move away from the ball, and the ball can go through. That's what Kenny was trying to do. He was trying move out of the way, to pull people out of the way. It was just unlucky for the team today.
