FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman
That was a great result for us. We started off the game very well, scored a very nice goal. We went into a 4-4-2 formation so we could play Eric [Hassli] and Blas [Perez] together. We had speed on both flanks with Jackson and Fabian [Castillo]. They made some changes we weren't quite ready for, but we scored a good first goal and then we just turned the ball over way too much. We stopped playing through the midfield. Balls were going directly to our forwards, who didn't have anybody to play with. We scored and then they scored almost at halftime, which was really disappointing. The second half, we came out a completely different team, playing with a little bit more urgency, playing quicker, getting balls to our flanks so they could serve, and then we started putting their defense under a little more pressure. We won quite a few balls in the midfield and then were able to counter off those balls. We got great service there at the end (on the second goal). Je-Vaughn Watson told me yesterday that he was going to score today, so he's good for his word. It was a great three points for us.
On Michel's importance to the team...
He's extremely important. He's playing out of position. He's naturally a left back. How important is he? We've scored what, eight, goals off corner kicks or free kicks? He's served quite a few of those balls. He's extremely important to this team. He hits a great free kick. He hits it with the right pace. If you look at the end of the game, he chipped the ball over a defender right to Kenny [Cooper]. He's extremely important to the success we've been having.
On what he said to his team at halftime...
I said to the guys that I didn't think they played well. I thought D.C. United seemed to be a team that was playing with more urgency and this seemed to be a game they feel they can beat us in and we needed to go back to our game plan, play quicker out wide, stop knocking balls to the striker's head unless we're crossing it and then I need people to step up and win some balls in the midfield. A lot of people were standing around. I told them to get some movement off the ball, play some balls into space so Jackson could run onto them and then I made the change with Kenny [Cooper] for Fabian [Castillo].
On winning a game despite missing several starters...
What I said to the players after the game was that they showed real character tonight. When is character really being measured? It's not when everything's going well in your life and your dad buys you a BMW. It's not when you're just as happy as can be and you get a great inheritance. Character is really being measured when things aren't going well for you... when you're having a difficult time... When you've got your back up against the wall... Today, we had a really difficult first half. We challenged them and they came back and showed their character.

On getting his second win of the season...
It felt good. Obviously, you relish all the opportunities you get and to get the win and the three points tonight is huge for us. It was exciting.
Did you expect to start tonight?
I don't ask questions, so I don't really have an answer as to why I got the start tonight. The way I look at it, [the coaching staff] is rewarding you for the work you have put in. I am just glad that I could go in there and not really change things, continue our winning ways and move forward.
How did you feel in there with all the young players such as London Woodberry and Walker Zimmerman?
I felt comfortable. At one point we just had Zach [Loyd] as the only veteran. [Matt] Hedges is in his second year and the two rookies were in there at the end of the game. I think they carried themselves very well. London probably had his best game of the season and Hedges, Zach and Jair [Benitez] were solid, as always.

On making his professional debut with FC Dallas...
It was great. Having been a part of this team for a few months now, and getting to know the guys, it's definitely an organization worth playing for... Everyone is very encouraging at training every day. It feels like all the hard work and rehab has paid off. It was just a great experience.
How was the level of play compared to what you were seeing in college?
The few minutes I saw there at the end, it was really hard to tell. It was definitely exciting to be out there and be part of such a thrilling game, the fans that were involved and engaged... It was definitely a bigger atmosphere than what I saw in college.
Overall thoughts on the match...
It was good. Our mentality was to walk away with three points and stay atop the league. We were able to accomplish that so I am really proud of the guys for going out there and getting the result.

Talk about your goal...
We got the set piece and before Michel took it, I decided I was just going to throw my body at it no matter if it came towards me in the air or on the ground. We wanted that goal to continue to stay on top of the table. We fought for everything in the second half. We really came out of halftime banging because coach said they were going to come at us hard in the second half. They were attacking. We were attacking, so it was just a matter of time before one of us got the winning goal.
In soccer, you have to go after everything but that was one of the easiest goals I have ever scored. The ball has never come to me like that before. I am just glad I was on top of it and was able to put it away. Yesterday, in practice, I was able to score a few goals off of set pieces, so I had some confidence going into today. I am really glad to be sitting here, having scored my first goal for FC Dallas.
On being the ninth different goal scorer for FC Dallas this season...
It makes everything easier when you can rely on everyone to contribute. On any given day anyone can score. It is very hard to defend against an opponent when they're getting scoring from all over the field.
Did you feel comfortable with all the new players out there today?
Yeah. We were all fresh and we have to learn to adapt to one another eventually so it was nice to see all the substitutes come out and play their part. We lost a lot of guys recently and it showed out there today for small portions of the match but everyone kept fighting. Ultimately, we came out with three points. Getting maximum points at home, at the end of the day, is always good.
