Highlights, records being broken, Academy talk and more!

"Top of the table, we're havin a blast!"
"Top of the table, we're havin a blast!"

Howdy folks! I never get tired of opening my news updates by reminding everyone that FCD are top of the table (and havin a blast)! FC Dallas are 8 points clear on top of the Western Conference and 5 points clear for the Supporters' Shield as they head to Vancouver for their 2nd meeting in as many weeks against the Whitecaps.

For those who missed the game this Saturday (shame on you), here's the video highlights posted by's Scott Brown. has started doing a really cool new type of "Match Highlights" of sorts by putting together a collection of social media posts as a way to look back at the game. Go check it out on the team's website. It's an interesting way to view a match in an entirely new way.

Schellas Hyndman broke a club record of his own with the 3 points gained on Saturday by setting the all time points record by a coach in FC Dallas history. Demetrio Teniente for spoke with SH about what the record means to him.

"It’s not been an easy road," said Hyndman. "We put a lot into it; myself, the staff and the players. Nobody gets any awards in this environment without the players. And this recognition goes back to our first game that we ever played in."

Hyndman began coaching at FC Dallas in 2008 after 26 years of coaching the SMU Men’s soccer team and Saturday's game was his 153rd at the helm. His biggest moment so far with FCD has been leading them to the 2010 MLS Cup Final, but with a 6-1-1 start, big things could be ahead in 2013.

Daniel Robertson writes that one of the keys to the team's success has been been it's stifling defense. But as Daniel points out it hasn't just been the back 5 that have made this possible, it has been the hard work of the entire team.

"A lot of things get broken up in the midfield before it gets to our defense by Andrew Jacobson and Michel," Hyndman said on Saturday. "Kenny [Cooper] is working hard. Jackson’s working hard. It’s harder to break us down."

Perhaps the most impressive aspect of the early-season defense has been how Dallas has smothered opponents through the first hour of matches. Despite leading the league with six goals allowed in the last 15 minutes, FCD has yet to allow a goal in the first hour of any game this season, a stunning statistic.

Stunning is the perfect word for that last stat. No goals in the first HOUR of play? If the team can fix the issues they've had with late goals this team will be unbeatable.

The FC Dallas Academy has announced the dates and times for their open training schedule through July. If you get a chance to go see the Academy teams play you should do it! You'll see great passion and quality ball at their games.

If you get a chance this Saturday you should head out to one of the watching parties around town. The Dallas Beer Guardians will be at The Staggering Irishman in Dallas, there's always a group at The Londoner in Frisco, and the official team watch party is going to be at Brickhouse Tavern in Plano. We hope to see you out supporting the Hoops this weekend.

I wanted to close with a post that was put up on the website entitled "44 Images That Perfectly Capture The Resilience Of The Human Spirit: A collection of images from the past week that have shown us just how powerful the human spirit really is". Go check out #44.
