FC Dallas Draws AIK in Portland Opener

Opening match of Portland Preseason Tournament ends scoreless between FC Dallas and AIK Stockholm

Steve Dykes

In the opening match of the Portland Preseason Tournament, FC Dallas and AIK Stockholm ended without a goal over 90 minutes at Jeld-Wen Field.

A cagey first half turned into a much more open second half in which both keepers were tested. Second-half substitute Raul Fernandez made the best save of the evening standing strong on an AIK breakaway attempt midway through the half.

For FC Dallas, while the offense struggled, the overall result is a positive one when you take into account the shutout and getting through 90 minutes unscathed.

I'll have lineups and much more extensive thoughts on the match later, but a few quick notes

-George John made it through a little over an hour without any issues in his first action of preseason.

-Kenny Cooper and Blas Perez paired together in the attack

-Trialist Mickael Tavares was given the start in midfield tonight but didn't manage to have much of an impact on the match.

-For me, Jackson was man of the match in a 90-minute performance in which he was a constant thorn in AIK's side. He drew two yellow cards on the Swedes and was unlucky to not have a final result. Raul Fernandez was also very impressive for FCD in goal.
