FC Dallas Makes Several Roster Moves; Jackson Traded, No Deal Reached With Cooper

Jackson traded to Toronto and no deal with Cooper reached. Oh boy.

Kelley L Cox-USA TODAY Sports

FC Dallas made several big moves today. First and foremost the club has reached a deal with 2013 second round SuperDraft pick Ryan Hollingshead.

The club also traded Brazilian midfielder Jackson to Toronto FC for allocation money and a conditional second-round pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft.

But here is where things get interesting. FC Dallas was unable to come to terms with forward Kenny Cooper and has tendered a bona fide offer to defender Zach Loyd. Cooper is eligible for Stage 1 of the MLS Re-Entry Draft on Thursday, Dec. 12. Loyd is not eligible for the MLS Re-Entry Draft.

The contract of Homegrown midfielder Victor Ulloa has expired and will not be renewed by FC Dallas.

The deal with Cooper is a tough pill to swallow for several folks. The club can still work out a deal with Cooper between now and Thursday, as well as next week if he does not get selected in the first stage of the Re-Entry Draft. While it sounds like on paper that his time is done (again) in Dallas, there is still a small hope that he can return but it doesn't sound good.

The news about Loyd isn't shocking as there is still time for the club to work out a deal with him. I believe they have until the end of this month to do so.

Ulloa getting cut isn't shocking either. The only surprise not listed is Ugo Ihemelu and what happened with his contract. More than likely his expiring deal will be just that and nothing more. He isn't listed in the updated roster below by the club so that is money off the books as well.

We'll discuss these moves more in the coming days. Also, our look at the roster for 2014 will be finished out with a look at the forwards later this week as well. This news makes that post a little more interesting to say the least.

Here is how the roster currently looks:

GOALKEEPERS (5): Raul Fernandez, Chris Seitz, Richard Sanchez, Kyle Zobeck, Jesse Gonzalez.
DEFENDERS (9): Jair Benitez, George John, Kellyn Acosta, Matt Hedges, Walker Zimmerman, Stephen Keel, Michel, London Woodberry, Moises Hernandez.
MIDFIELDERS (6): Andrew Jacobson, Je-Vaughn Watson, Bobby Warshaw, Danny Garcia, Mauro Diaz, Ryan Hollingshead.
FORWARDS: (5): Fabian Castillo, Blas Perez, Bradlee Baladez, Jonathan Top, Eric Hassli.
