The World Cup Draw has come and gone and the times, dates, locations and teams have all been sorted. How did the USA fare?
The USA got drawn with Germany, Ghana, and Portugal. So that's easy pretty much. I fully expect the USA to win the gro---
No. This is possibly the worst outcome. Abandon all hope! Abandon ship! Those teams are absolutely brutal. It's grim news folks, but it was grim news when Washington evacuated New York. It was grim news in Bunker Hill. It was grim news after the Battle of Bull Run. When the Articles of the Confederation had to be scrapped, it was bad then too. Americans haven't shied away from a challenge.
The United States is absolutely the underdog. Make no mistake, this group is going to grind all of its participants into a fine paste before all is said and done. Can the USA really be good enough to make it out? We will find out. The USA is fearless, and it could be their ticket to the round of 16, or their undoing.
It's a bit early to spell doom, but there a is no way to spin this group in a positive light. The USA is going to have to summon the ghost of George Washington to pull this off.
Here are the other groups:
Group A: Brazil, Croatia, Mexico, Cameroon
Group B: Spain, Netherlands, Chile, Australia
Group C: Colombia, Greece, Ivory Coast, Japan
Group D: Uruguay, Costa Rica, England, Italy
Group E: Switzerland, Ecuador, France, Honduras
Group F: Argentina, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Iran, Nigeria
Group G: Germany, Portugal, Ghana, USA
Group H: Belgium, Algeria, Russia, South Korea
(P.S. Ecuador got a great group that they can reasonably hope to beat. Sorry USA.)
How do you guys feel the USA will do? Groups B, C, and D all look tough as nails. There are some very good teams in there.
Thoughts? Would you like to commiserate and drink? Let's hear it in the comments below. I'll be drinking some strong whiskey starting... now.
