So I wish that in this space I was writing about the new FC Dallas head coach but......yeah I'm frustrated too.
It has been announced that Kenny Cooper is now officially a Seattle Sounder. I made my feelings about this trade well known last week. Seattle on the other hand are quite excited to have the big man in Rave Green. Soccerly.com writes about how the acquisition of Cooper helped to facilitate the Sounders moving Eddie Johnson to DC United.
The availability of Cooper was the last jigsaw piece before feeling comfortable to trade Johnson and Sounders FC have captured an experienced MLS forward with a very different demeanor to Johnson. Cooper is known to be a very quiet, nice, even shy man who rarely causes ripples off the field.
Kenny has always been known as a clean player around MLS. Except that one time he tried to eat the soul of Victor Bernardez.
Kenny will be missed without a doubt.
FC Dallas didn't walk away with nothing from that deal though. The Hoops got a much needed position player in Adam Moffat from SSFC. MLSSoccer.com's Matt Barbour reported that during a conference call with the media after the trade, Moffat was none too happy to be traded on again with no warning.
"It’s funny the way the league operates, you never have that much security in one place. There was no mention of it, there was no ‘this could possibly be the case’," Moffat shared with media in a Wednesday afternoon conference call. "It’s a horrible position and it’s one I’d never wish on anyone else. I hope with the CBA that’s coming up next year, that we can kind of do something about that."
That's not to say that Moffat is unhappy with being in Dallas per se, more that he didn't appreciate being moved only months after being traded to Seattle.
"It definitely helps that the team really, really wants me there," said Moffat. "The team has been needing someone in that [holding midfield] position the last few years, it’s good to know that they’ll look at me for that...I’m looking forward to battling for the position, I know it’s there," said Moffat.
"Hopefully this is it and I get to finish out my career here. I’ve been playing a long time and that’s kind of what you hope for every team you go to."
The Scotsman does add much needed depth at a position that FCD needed help at last season. I would expect Moffat to move to the top of the depth charts at DMid for FCD.
While the MLS Goal of the Year vote went the way of the Vancouver Whitecaps and Golden Boot winner Camilo, FC Dallas had a GotY vote of their own. You the fans selected Michel's Olimpico against the Seattle Sounders as the Hoops top goal of the 2013 season.
I'll never get tired of watching that goal. What did you guys think was the top goal?
US National Teams
Earlier in the week US Soccer named their Men's and Women's National Team all time Best XI. Here are the results.
Not too many surprises on the men's team, other than possibly the omission of Lalas? The women's team has caused a little more conversation I think. The biggest deal there, of course, was the choice of Briana Scurry over Hope Solo, who you knew would have something to say about it, although most of her tweets about the list have been deleted.
Ignorance is bliss???? Or just dumb...— Hope Solo (@hopesolo) December 11, 2013
To be fair there are solid arguments to be made for both Solo and Scurry. Who would you have chosen as your Best XI for both teams?
The rumors are true and it has been confirmed that Seattle Sounders man Clint Dempsey is headed on loan back to his old squad Fulham FC for January and February. MLSSoccer.com has the report.
On Friday, the London club, where Dempsey spend nearly six years after transferring from the New England Revolution in 2007, confirmed the Seattle Sounders DP was set to undergo a medical with an eye toward a loan move for the months of January and February.
Considering that Clint seemed to finally be looking like his old self at the end of the MLS season this can only be a good thing for the 30 year old Texan. This will help him continue to improve his fitness and be prepared not only for the MLS season ahead but, more importantly, the upcoming World Cup.
Another USMNT player looking to be ready for Brazil is young midfielder Mix Diskerud. ESPNFC.com editor Alex Labidou spoke with a Champions League scout about whether Mix should leave Rosenborg for a larger club to continue his growth.
His ability to play quickly when the level [of play] rises also needs to improve and this will come from challenging himself even further as he continues his career. He seems quite comfortable at this stage of his career in Norway and needs to make a move to a bigger league, which will force him to play quicker and even more intelligent. At 23, he has shown that he is capable of playing in Norway’s top flight. Can he handle the game when it gets much quicker?
It's a great article that brings up many solid points about the young Norwegian American and his talent level. Let us know what league/club you would like to see Mix at to continue his growth as an up and comer in the USMNT ranks.
On the heels of my good friend Dan Crooke giving us a look at possible new kits for FC Dallas, US Soccer has announced that they have come to a new agreement with kit manufacturer Nike for another 9 years. Joe Prince-Wright at Pro Soccer Talk has the story.
So the U.S. Soccer Federation and Nike have kept their partnership going, as on Friday the U.S. announced a new nine-year deal between the sports apparel company from Oregon.
The long-standing linkup began in 1995 and Nike have gone hand-in-hand with both the USMNT and USWNT ever since, across all levels from the development squads to the full national teams.
All I'm saying is BRING BACK THE DENIM!!!!!!
Here's video of a terrifying collapse of an entire grandstand full of people at a game in India this week in which over 100 people were injured.
Video via youtube.com.
Luckily and amazingly no one was killed in the collapse. According to reports criminal charges have been brought against the home club.
Well guys it's been an amazing year here at BigDSoccer.com. We leave you with a Happy Holidays video from FC Dallas.
