Tulsa To Join USL-Pro In 2015

One more regional club to join the mix.

While FC Dallas fans were upset yesterday over the news that the club would not be fielding a USL-Pro side in 2014, news did come out of the third division front office that there will be yet another regional rival for FCD for when they do field a team.

Starting in 2015, the USL-Pro will be expanding to Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The Tulsa Drillers of Minor League Baseball will be majority owners of the new team with Prodigal LLC holding a minority interest in the squad.

The team will play its home games at ONEOK Field, providing the highest level of professional soccer in the city since the Tulsa Roughnecks played their final season in the North American Soccer League in 1984.

If FCD does field a reserve team in 2015, it will instantly create a nice little regional rivalry between the two Oklahoma clubs (OKC Energy FC begin play in 2014). And at the very least, this should help energize the early rounds of the US Open Cup.

I'm still holding out hope of a mini preseason tournament between these two USL-Pro sides, FCD, San Antonio, Houston and who knows, maybe a team in Austin. That would be fun.

The USL-Pro will also be expanding to Colorado Springs in 2015.
