We're going to ramp up our MLS SuperDraft player profiles this week. Up first is another guy from UCLA, full back Joe Sofia.
Sofia started 18 games for the Bruins in 2013, scoring one goal from his defensive post. He helped lead a defense that had seven shutouts on the season.
He was a consistent starter in his four seasons with the Bruins, starting 80 games out of 82 played. Sofia ended his college career with five goals and eight assists, not a bad number from a defender.
The Mission Viejo, California native would be another big target in the back for FC Dallas is the club were to select him. At six-foot-two, he has been projected as one of the top defensive prospects in this draft.
Sofia also has a cannon to him from his throw-ins.
I list Sofia early on in this process for a couple of reasons. He could play in the middle or on the flanks in the defense. With question marks surrounding the return of Zach Loyd, having more young depth in the back like this guy wouldn't hurt going forward. Sofia is also a smart player as well, he was an All-Academic guy at UCLA three of his four years with the Bruins.
