File this report and rumor under one that I'm sure many of you are going to be excited to hear. This website recklesschallenge.net) was able to unearth a bit of news that will impact FC Dallas going forward. It states that the club is set to field a USL-Pro team in 2014.
Let's begin with two MLS reserve sides that will be establishing USL PRO clubs to begin play next season. My source indicates that those two teams will be Los Angeles Galaxy and FC Dallas. Rumors about the Galaxy standing up a USL PRO team have been circulating for a couple of months, and it appears there was good reason for that. News about FC Dallas comes out of the blue.
Out of the blue doesn't even begin to describe it.
In a recent interview with Hunt Sports Group vice president Dan Hunt, the topic of a USL-Pro team came up and as one might expect talking to the leader of FC Dallas, the answer wasn't one that seemed like the club would go all in or do what they did in 2014 by loaning out players.
"We've been talking about things internally with regards to that," said Hunt. "We are going to make sure that the young players on our roster in the back part of it that are not getting a lot of playing opportunities they will get games. I don't want to divulge any of the details, but you talk about a focus of this organization, besides winning and winning championships with the first team, we're going to get these kids but we're going to get them meaningful games so that we can continue to develop players... We will get these kids and young people meaningful games."
Big D Soccer hasn't been able to get FC Dallas to respond to any questions regarding this new rumor. But given how the report states how they found this information (a club staffer accidentally posting a photo of the table online), means we may be in for a real treat beginning next year. The club definitely saw high value in all of the loans that they did in 2013. Not to mention the quality of the academy system right now, it certainly makes sense to field a club in the USL-Pro to help foster the development of these young players.
We will keep our ear to the ground on this one as this story continues to develop.
