Thumbs Up, Thumbs Down: Ramon Nunez

Nunez played in 10 matches in 2013, scoring just one goal.

Time for another name on the year-end roster evaluations for FC Dallas. We're going with the Roman theme of thumbs up or thumbs down for this series.

Today's subject, is midfielder Ramon Nunez.

Nunez returned to the club after leaving back in 2007 in a trade to Chivas USA. The Honduran international then went to play in England, Mexico and Honduras from 2008 until last year when he got hurt with an ACL injury. He and Leeds United agreed to end the contact early and that opened the door for Nunez to return to Dallas in 2013.

The signing of Nunez wasn't a big fan fare kind of thing. The club brought him in as a depth piece for the midfield. Due to his recovery from knee surgery, FC Dallas had to wait to get him on the field. Finally in the summer he would see his first action and as you would expect he was a bit rusty.

Nunez would only appear in 10 games in 2013, all off the bench. He scored one goal and had three assists. Most fans remember his performance off the bench against Chivas USA back in August to end the club's winless run.

Most fans seemed to want Nunez on the field more but Schellas Hyndman had other ideas. When asked about why he wasn't playing as much as fans thought he should, Hyndman usually offered up either his fitness as an issue or the fact that Nunez never seemed to want to play in a fixed position on the field. He is the type of player that likes to roam around more than staying on one side of the field. That can be good at times and bad at times. Hyndman seemed to find it hard to work with more than anything else.

From a salary standpoint, Nunez was cheap with a base salary of just $65k. Given his small production, I would say the club got what they paid for out of him in 2013. At the most, Nunez is a decent depth piece on this team but I don't see him ever being anything more than that. Maybe a new coach could get more out of him but it would have to be in a different formation and set up.

But we give the option to you, thumbs up to keep him, or thumbs down to let him go?
