While the United States men's national team has already qualified for next year's World Cup in Brazil, there are still some open spots that could be claimed this month in qualifying. Just like in the last couple qualifying rounds, Major League Soccer will not have a break in their schedule during these qualifying rounds. That likely means that FC Dallas could be without some key players down the stretch.
The remaining qualifying rounds are set for October 11 and 15, which means there will be only one FC Dallas game that will get in the way of things - the home date with the Chicago Fire on October 12.
I should point out that nothing is official with the World Cup call ups for Jamaica (Je-Vaughn Watson), Panama (Blas Perez) or Peru (Raul Fernandez). But with all three playing games this month, Dallas fans should expect to see one to all three of those players mention in parenthesis called into action.
The big one will be with Perez and Panama. With two games left in qualifying, Panama sits three points out of the third and final automatic qualifying spot in CONCACAF. Panama big game in Mexico City with Mexico on October 11 and will follow it up with their final qualifying game against the United States on October 15 in Panama City.
So far this year FC Dallas is actually 2-1 without Perez in the lineup due to World Cup qualifiers. Dallas won games last month against Vancouver and earlier this year against Real Salt Lake without Perez.
Overall this season, Dallas is 4-3-1 without Perez available.
The Reggae Boyz are already eliminated from being able to qualify for Brazil through one of the three automatic bids through CONCACAF. They can still sneak into the 4th spot and qualify through the playoff against New Zealand later this year. That is a big if though considering how things have gone for them in qualifying this year.
In their remaining two games, they'll play at Livestrong Park in Kansas City against the United States on October 11 and then will finish up qualifying at home against Honduras on October 15.
Watson skipped the September round of qualifying to stay with FC Dallas. More than likely that will hurt his chances of getting the call again in October. If he does get the call though, it could be interesting to see if he takes it this time around. Watson hasn't appeared in the last two games.
This could be the most interesting one for Dallas to watch our for as Peru is already eliminated from qualifying. Peru has a road game on the October 11 at Argentina and will finish up qualifying on October 15 at home against Bolivia.
Fernandez has missed four matches for Dallas this season due to call-ups. Dallas is actually 3-0-1 without him in-between the sticks.
Peru has set most of their roster for the upcoming matches but have yet to announce which keepers they will bring in for the remaining two games.
