Schellas Hyndman Resigns: The Future Awaits

The gaffer is gone.

Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports

It has happened.

What many fans suspected has finally come to pass: Schellas Hyndman has stepped down as the Head Coach for FC Dallas.

It has been a whirlwind few years with Schellas at the helm. The Toros have hit some very high highs and some very ugly lows. If there's one thing that can be said with certainty, it's that the Hyndman era provided some very memorable moments.

Who can forget the MLS Cup run in 2010? Or the first competitive win in Mexico by an MLS team? Or the ugly, unmistakably awful losing streaks the past two years? Or the butter leather jacket? Or the video of him getting kicked in the nether regions?

A Time For Goodbye

While many will be happy to see him go, I hope that fans can give Hyndman a proper and classy sendoff on Saturday, which will be the last home game of the season.

Anyone who has dealt with him can only say good things about his work ethic and about him as a person. In a world full of awful personalities in sports, Hyndman is one of the rare few who complain little (publicly) and try and let the sport do the talking. Even when it failed. That's a rare thing in a world full of Sigis, Porters and Arenas.

This season wasn't a very good one at all, and his legacy will at best be remembered as "mixed", but it would be nice to treat the man the way you'd like to be treated. He will take the field at Toyota Stadium one last time as the boss of our team. Cheering is not required, but it would be sad to see anything that pokes fun at his or the team's situation. The match will be on national TV, so hopefully FC fans will show the MLS world how Dallas rolls (which is to say Dallas rolls better than anyone else).

But let's not be negative. Today might be an odd and confusing and bittersweet end to his career, but what lies ahead is exciting.

The future awaits. Piles upon piles of articles, speculative theories, and more will be coming to Big D Soccer in the coming weeks. We hope you'll be here to join in on this discussion.

It will be an exciting period in the team's history. The draft, the signing window and a coach search beckon.

What are your feelings today? Are you feeling happy, sad, both? Are you feeling angry it took this long, or relieved it happened at all?
