FC Dallas has rounded out their bench yet again. After Daniel Hernandez left the club last month, there was an opening on Schellas Hyndman's bench for a new assistant coach. Tuesday morning the club announced that they have hired former SMU assistant coach Brent Erwin as the new assistant coach to Hyndman.
"I am excited to once again coach alongside Schellas," said Erwin. "Having worked together previously, I expect our transition period will be very minimal. I know Schellas, Drew [Keeshan] and Marco [Ferruzzi] work tirelessly towards the ultimate goal of bringing an MLS Cup to FC Dallas. I am honored to be joining the effort."
Erwin previously served under Hyndman at SMU from June 2000 until May of 2005.
Erwin served as the assistant coach for SMU during the 2012 season. The TCU graduate also served as head coach of the women's program at SMU from 2007 to 2012. Prior to his tenure at SMU, Erwin was the head coach of the men's program at the University of Central Florida from 2005 through 2007.
Erwin also trained for two seasons with the Dallas Burn under head coach Dave Dir after his playing days at TCU were over.
This should be the final coaching change of the offseason for FC Dallas. We've already seen two changes this winter but Erwin should be final piece to the coaching puzzle.
