In the hustle and bustle of life, things can go by pretty fast.
A month can seem like a day and a week even less than that. However, when you take a step back and look at things from a bigger picture, 12 months is a pretty long time. A lot can change in a year.
12 months ago, the Rangers were the cream of the crop in the American League, the Mavericks were NBA Champions, and Tony Romo was throwing interceptions at big moments - well I guess some things never change.
In the same manner, when you rewind the clock 12 months, the state of FC Dallas was a lot different.
12 months ago, Brek Shea was the hottest name in US Soccer. Fancies of 10-goal 10-assist seasons danced around in the heads of FC Dallas fans while contingency plans were being drawn up as if the Texan was assured of missing nearly two months in the middle of the season with the United States at the Olympics in London. Not just that, but stories seemed to be leaking almost weekly about which Champions League team would be lining up to sign Shea, providing FCD with the money to make their next big foray into South America.
12 months ago, the jersey said FC Dallas on the front.
12 months ago, Manchester City was just the noisy neighbors
12 months ago, Ruben Luna was poised to take over the full-time backup forward spot for FC Dallas. Coming off a 2011 with 15 appearances, Luna looked to be ready to take the next step, myself being one of the people that'd hyped him the most. After a pre-season injury, however, Luna was never really the same and after a failed loan spell with San Antonio Scorpions was unceremoniously cut from the squad in November.
12 months ago, no one knew who Matt Hedges was.
12 months ago, Oscar Pareja was still an assistant coach with FC Dallas.
12 months ago, it looked like Jackson would probably never be seen in the red and white of FC Dallas ever again. Having returned to Brazil on a loan spell with Cruzeiro, most figured that Hyndman and FCD would probably cut bait on Jackson. However, after a ridiculous number of injuries, Jackson was re-called from his loan and majorly impressed for FC Dallas. He is now one of the major cogs in Hyndman's "strike force" next season with clubs in Mexico taking major interest in the Brazilian.
12 months ago, you wouldn't recognize Julian de Guzman.
12 months ago, it was Pizza Hut Park.
I think you get the picture. As much as we all like to think as much as three years in the future, the fact is that every year is really its own unpredictable entity. Everyone, myself included, wants to be able to say they've seen every moving coming(some lie and say they did), but in reality, no one really knows.
On a personal level, 2012 was an incredible year for me, and I hope it was an incredible year for you too. For FC Dallas, the last 12 months can be described as pretty forgettable.
But a lot can change in a year.
