FC Dallas Academy/College Review: Week 2

New, 4 comments

Week 2 of our college review. We are also just over a week way from the 2011-2012 Development Academy season kicking off for FC Dallas who play at Classics Elite of Austin next weekend.

London Woodberry(Defense) - University of Maryland Junior Woodberry started in defense as #2 Maryland won both games this weekend. On Friday night it was a 4-0 win over Stanford in a marquee matchup that was featured on Fox Soccer. Sunday, UM had a little more trouble but got past Radford 2-1. Maryland is 4-0-0 and up to #2 in the country with Woodberry starting every game. Maryland faces #8 Boston College on Friday in their first ACC matchup.

Bradlee Baladez(Forward) - University of South Carolina Sophomore Baladez and USC lost to Clemson 2-0 last Friday despite holding a 14-4 shot advantage. Bradlee had three shots in the game but failed to find a goal. The Gamecocks did find their first win of the season on Tuesday in their home opener against #21 Charlotte. USC faces Dartmouth and Bradley this weekend in New Hampshire at the Darmouth Classic.

Jamie Ibarra(Goalkeeper) SMU Sophomore Ibarra was the star of the weekend, playing in goal for SMU in both their games at the Duke Classic. On Friday, Ibarra kept a clean sheet through 90 minutes but was beaten in overtime in the 99th minute to drop a 1-0 result to NC State. On Sunday, Ibarra produced 9 saves in a 1-0 overtime victory over Duke.

Daniel Premenko(Defender Creighton Sophomore #6 Creighton defeated Drexel 3-0, Premenko did not play in the match.

Boyd "OC" Okwuono(Defender) - University of North Carolina Freshman OC and the now #1 Tar Heels enjoyed a fantastic weekend defeating Oregon State 5-1 and previously #1 Louisville 2-1. OC started and earned an assist in the 5-1 drubbing of the Beavers and also started the win over Louisville. I love the fact that he is starting for the #1 team in the country as a freshman. It's really just a matter of time with this guy before he signs with FCD who has the awesome luxury of letting him season at a great program like UNC.

Jacob Gerondale(Defender) - IPFW Redshirt Freshman Gerondale came off the bench in the Mastodon's 6-0 win over Nebraska-Omaha and did not play in IPFW's upset bid against Kentucky which fell just short losing 4-2.

Jack Coleman(Defender/Midfielder) - Indiana Freshman Coleman came off the bench to play some part in the Hoosiers' 6-0 win over Dayton last Sunday and did not feature in their 3-1 win vs St. Louis on Friday. I wonder if Coleman is nursing some injury because I find it tough to believe that he would struggle to find time on the field at IU. That or the Hoosiers are simply stacked...

Chris Figueroa(Midfielder SMU Sophomore Ineligible due to transferring from NC State

Damian Rosales(Midfielder) - SMU Sophomore Started and played 86 minutes in the 1-0 loss to NC State logging two shots on goal. Started and played 50 minutes in the 1-0 victory over Duke tallying one shot on goal.

Skylar Hagan(Outside midfielder) - Old Dominon Freshman Scored a goal in ODU's 6-0 defeat of Houston Baptist. It's very cool that Hagan, a player who wasn't really a starter for the U18 Academy team last year is scoring for a major college team as a freshman.

Byron Knowles(Defender) - Lubbock Christian Freshman Started in both of Lubbock Christian's games this past weekend, a 6-1 victory over St. Mary's and a 1-1 draw with Eastern New Mexico

We had a question regarding the whereabouts of Marlon Duran, a US Youth international defender that had a brief spell with the FCD Academy and went to Dayton. Apparently he has gone to Europe to pursue a career there, good luck to him.

As always, if I've missed someone please let me know.
