FC Dallas Defeats UANL Tigres 2-1, Wins Rio Grande Plate on Penalties

New, comments

FC Dallas scored some hardware tonight, defeating Tigres 2-1 in an entertaining contest at Pizza Hut Park tonight. Tigres opened the scoring in the first half through a poachers goal from Lucas Lobos beating Chris Seitz to his right. However, FCD would fire back just minutes later with Ruben Luna scoring his first goal at Pizza Hut Park on a beautiful chip of the Tigres keeper right before the half to level things at 1-1.

Just seconds into the second half, halftime substitute Jackson pounced on an errant Tigres pass near midfield and took things all the way in on goal scoring the game-winner in the 46th minute. Tigres would mostly hold possession from there but fail to make their opportunities count sending the game to penalty kicks.

In the penalty kicks with the score tied at 5-5, Acuna clanged his penalty kick off the crossbar and Jeremy Hall buried his to give FC Dallas the 6-5 penalty kick victory to win the Rio Grande Plate.

A few thoughts after the jump

Youngsters show well Having only arrived home from work at 720, I had to watch this one on the webstream and from what I could tell, the youngsters played very well tonight. Leyva was always dangerous down the left side while Ruben Luna finally scored a goal at Pizza Hut Park. Victor Ulloa playing at right back was solid and Moises Hernandez went 90 at left back. Considering that Tigres had their starters in for a good bit of the game, the result speaks for itself.

Jacobson back to full fitness It's extremely encouraging to see Andrew Jacobson play another 90 minutes tonight for Dallas without injury. That's three 90 minute games in a row for AJ and it looks like his nagging injury is finally behind him. Again, just great news.

George John, Captain George John wore the captains armband tonight for the first time. This is a major statement by Schellas Hyndman to give GJ the armband just a week after he was in England looking to seal a move away from the club. I'm not really sure about this one unless there's a contract extension coming, but it's a real statement.

Admittedly, I wasn't watching this one with 100% attention the whole game so I likely missed some stuff, those who made it out there tonight, give me some more thoughts on this game!
