FC Dallas Academy/College Review: Week 4

New, 1 comment

It's a big week for the review as the US Soccer Development Academy kicked off last weekend so now we have those results to track as well. We'll start with the Academy since it's their debut week.

Academy

The U18 and U16 academy went to San Antonio last week and ran riot over Classics Elite. The U18s defeated Classics, 3-1 behind two goals from homegrown signing Jonathan Top and a third from Bobby Edet. Bobby is a forward that scored 14 goals in 26 games for the U16's last year and has an enormous amount of potential, but dominated at the U16 level partly due to his dominating physical presence. One of the main story lines I'm watching from this season is can Edet make the jump to U18 level so seeing that he's scored a goal is definitely a great sign. Top is one of the best forwards at his age group in the country.

The U16's dismantled Classics 7-0 behind braces from Ilya Dmitriakov, Zach Dunbar and Aaron Meyer with the other goal coming from US Youth International Kellyn Acosta. Dmitriakov is a guy I first spotted playing for the FC Dallas U15 team that won Dallas Cup this year as an attacking midfielder. He scored a brilliant goal to win the game I saw and I'm very excited to see him scoring at this level. Definitely a player to watch from that group.

The Academy returns to action this weekend against Andromeda here in Dallas. Unfortunately the games are during FC Dallas vs Houston so I won't be able to make it out there.
