Apologies for going AWOL yesterday, but to be honest right now there's just not a lot going on...and when you think about it maybe that's a good thing. FC Dallas sits 5 points behind LA for first place in the league, but the two games in hand that Dallas has looms large.

Last night, the FC Dallas Academy played the next to last game of the Development Academy season facing off against Andromeda in a rescheduled match from a few weeks ago. Heading into the game, the U18 Academy needed one win from their last two games to clinch the highly competitive Texas Division.

They'll have to wait until a rematch against Andromeda on Saturday as they could only manage a 0-0 draw last night in a game where I've heard Dallas missed a whole bunch of chances. They sit four points above Dallas Texans with one game to play, though Texans have a game in hand so the division isn't quite locked up yet.

The U16 side likely clinched a Wild Card playoff berth by nipping Andromeda U16 1-0 last night. Both teams will finish their regular season at UTD on Saturday afternoon with the games at 2 and 430PM. I hope to make it out there. The Development Academy Playoffs kickoff in Frisco the last weekend of June.

In MLS news, Columbus Crew did FC Dallas a huge solid last night, coming from behind to beat RSL 2-1 with two second half goals. You just never see Salt Lake drop leads like this and they don't seem to be the same side without Javier Morales. Salt Lake remains 5 points behind FC Dallas with three games in hand.

It's always a huge day in MLS when a new stadium opens and tonight Kansas City will open Livestrong Park against Chicago Fire on ESPN2. It's a huge advantage for FCD to have Kansas City play such an emotional game in advance of the game in Frisco on Sunday. FC Dallas will be on 7 days rest while KC will have 2 days rest...you do the math.

Bobby Rhine released his Starting XI for the All-Star game. Give it a look and see if you agree. Also, don't expect to see any FC Dallas players against Manchester United as they will be playing their CONCACAF Champions League qualifier away to Alianza on possibly the same evening.

Hear from Schellas Hyndman on Hartman, Chavez, heat and more in Robert Casner's Schellas XI

“Watching Marvin many times in games, he has that speed to get around the corner and run at the goalkeeper, and he just gets in there and he hits the ball as hard as he can.”

This one isn't FCD related, but I think it's pretty cool. The Rangers and Astros have drafted two players who have been recently paralyzed, one of them paralyzed in a collision with a player that the Rangers drafted in the first round.

Johnathan Taylor and Buddy Lamothe may never play baseball again after accidents left them partially paralyzed.

That didn't matter to the teams that picked them Wednesday during the final rounds of the Major League Baseball draft.
