Open Cup is fun isn't it...if that's an MLS game, the teams would have accepted a point each, but in win or go home games you gotta push for the victory.

Last night, FCD battled to a 3-2 victory over Orlando City in the Open Cup 3rd round.

FC Dallas head coach Schellas Hyndman began the game with seven starters from Saturday’s 4-0 win over the Portland Timbers. Goal-scoring midfielder Brek Shea, goalkeeper Kevin Hartman and center back Ugo Ihemelu highlighted the starting 11 for FC Dallas.

On the other half of our bracket last night, Real Salt Lake defeated Wilmington 2-0 to set up an all-MLS quarterfinal at Pizza Hut Park two weeks from yesterday. Jason Kreis shared some thoughts on the quarterfinal after the game.

That’s an extremely difficult opponent for us.  Their strengths are getting at some of our weaknesses.  We do have to have a little bit of positivity about that game because we got a good result there the last time we were there.”

In other news, T&T forward Shahdon Winchester is rumored to be coming on trial...The article also mentions a 17 year old T&T player coming to Dallas, though that could be an academy thing. Going back to the Michael Hitchcock days, Dallas has had a connection with Trinidad and Tobago so there could be something to this. Winchester's wiki mentions that he was called "the next Dwight Yorke" by Soca Warriors coach Russell Latapy so this guy could be worth a look at just 19. He has also trialed at Celtic.

T&T’s and W Connection’s forward Shahdon Winchester is off again on trials in the United States Major League Soccer. Winchester, who earlier this year showcased his talents for the technical team of last year’s MLS champions Colorado Rapids, will be joining FC Dallas for a ten-day viewing period.

Fifa.com has a nice article up on Mexico U17 and FC Dallas goalie Richard Sanchez. Give it a look...

On leaving Spain, Sanchez found a place in the youth set-up at FC Dallas, signing his first professional contract with the MLS club this February, though he has yet to make his debut. So what did the Texans see in the tall custodian? “I’m agile and secure,” he said, venturing an answer. “I need to improve in the air though, and read the game better.”
