Meet Orlando City SC

via

So who are these pesky little lower leaguers that FCD is taking on tonight in the Lamar Hunt US Open Cup Third Round

Best team in USL Pro Statistically, Orlando is far an away the best team in the league. Their 34 points after 16 games are good for first in the league and ten points ahead of second place, though it should be noted that Orlando has games in hand. They're the highest scoring team in the league with 26 goals and middle of the pack defensively.

Familiar Faces Whenever a lower league team comes to town, it seems like there's a couple of guys that make you go "he looks familiar!" The most familiar face will certainly be Jamie Watson who's been in and out of Dallas during the Schellas Hyndman tenure with his main cup of coffee coming in 2008 when Watson made it into one game at Toronto. He's a little pest of a winger/forward that will get beaten defensively but never give up on a scoring chance.

Charlie Campbell will be another guy that might be familiar to anyone who went to FCD pre-season games this year. Campbell, a second round 2011 draft pick of FCD, spent most of the pre-season injured and never caught on here.

Sean Kelley, Orlando's backup goalie, also had a swim through Frisco in 2010.

Road weary Like most lower league teams, Orlando generally plays two games in a weekend and this past weekend they played twice in Antigua! According to a tweet from Jamie Watson, the team only got into Frisco this morning.

Rematch Dallas played Orlando City at the Disney Cup in pre-season beating them 1-0 on a goal from Milton Rodriguez. As I recall, Ruben Luna was very strong against Orlando hitting the post a couple of times.

Aztex If you don't remember, Orlando City SC is formerly the Austin Aztex. It was a fairly messy breakup between the Aztex and Austin so don't be surprised if you see some people from Chantico's Army up in Frisco tonight cheering for or against the away side.

Enjoy the game
