FC Dallas To Face Orlando City In US Open Cup

I talked about the possibly bracket pairings for FC Dallas a little while back and my hunch turned out to be right. Dallas ended up getting the winner of the Orlando City-Charleston Battery match. Last night, Orlando City downed the Battery 1-0 defender Rob Valentino in the 40th minute.

The win was a big one for Orlando for a number of reasons. They became the first non-MLS team to win at Blackbaud Stadium in US Open Cup play. The Battery have been playing Open Cup games there since 1999. They are 18-5-3 (2-1 in PKs) in that stadium all-time in this tournament and will fail to reach the Third Round for the first time since 2005.

Orlando has been one of the best teams in the USL-Pro division this season but luckily for Dallas, the two sides have already met once this year in preseason play. So there shouldn't be any shockers on the pitch for Dallas.

The game in Dallas is scheduled for next Tuesday at Pizza Hut Park.
