If there is one word I would use to describe the last couple of weeks for FC Dallas it would be "Professional." It hasn't always been pretty, but FCD has straight gotten the job done since losing Ferreira winning four of their last five games to pull within striking distance at the top of the league. Last night was probably the most complete performance of the month as Dallas put Philly on the mat with a first half goal from Brek Shea(created entirely by Fabian Castillo) then stepped on their throat with a second goal soon after from the excellent Castillo.

While Dallas didn't score in the second half, they did a fantastic job of not allowing a demoralized Philadelphia side back in the game and nearly grabbed a third on multiple occasions. A 100% professional 90 minute performance that should earn these guys a day or two off next week. On to the grades: (For reference, a 6 is generally an average game for me)

Game Grades

Kevin Hartman 6.5 - Really didn't have a whole lot to do, made a couple of nice plays. Just 3 shutouts from 100 all-time.

Zach Loyd 6 - Caught out of position a couple of times in the first half allowing Philly counterattack opportunities, but other than that had a nice, steady game.

Ugo Ihemelu 7.5 - A really good night for Ugo who made a couple of massive tackles to prevent Union scoring opportunities and nearly grabbed a goal on a corner in the second half. Defensive leader last night.

George John 7 - Steady night from the big Greek. Got better as the game went on.

Jackson 6 - Not the best night from the Brazilian on the defensive end. Got eaten up by Justin Mapp in the first half, but gets an extra point for the fantastic cross to Castillo on the goal.

Daniel Hernandez 7 - Another great night from the captain. Probably the MVP of the first 10 games if you ask me. Loses a half point for blasting that set piece over the bar early in the second half.

Andrew Jacobson 8 - Playing against his old team, AJ was a man possessed last night playing in the box to box midfield role. Nearly scored his first goal of the season and hardly put a foot wrong...great performance.

Eric Alexander 6.5 - Not bad at all from Alexander, but very quiet. It's pretty much the same thing every week from him which you can't really argue with at this point

Brek Shea 7.5 - The Blonde Bomber owned the left side last night giving Roger Torres all sorts of problems. Didn't have a lot to do with the goal, but celebrated his new contract with a great game.

Marvin Chavez 7 - I'm very happy with the way Chavez is playing right now. You just feel like once the first goal comes for the Honduran, more are going to quickly follow. He's still struggling to get on the exact same page as Castillo, but it's going to happen and when it does the Dallas attack will be devastating.

Fabian Castillo 8.5 - Man of the match performance from Castillo. While there will be days where we are left rueing the fact that his moves didn't come off, last night he was the match winner for Dallas providing the two moments of magic to win the game. Just 18 years old....
