FC Dallas News Update 10/11

Last night was a pretty crazy Dallas sports moment eh? Playoff baseball has the DFW area gripped right now and if FC Dallas wins tomorrow, they'll be another of the local teams in the playoffs.

The MLS website lays out all the playoff scenarios in this article

FC Dallas will clinch a berth in the MLS Cup Playoffs if:

They defeat Chicago (Oct. 12)
They tie Chicago (Oct. 12)
AND There is a winner in the Portland-Houston game (Oct. 14)
AND New York lose to Kansas City (Oct. 15)

After extolling the praises of Dominic Oduro yesterday, it looks like he and Marco Pappa, the two most dangerous players on the Chicago roster, will miss tomorrow's match

Team goalscoring leader Dominic Oduro was one of several key Fire players missing from Monday’s training, out with a 105-degree fever.

While Oduro’s status is still up in the air, the Fire already know that they’ll be without midfielder Marco Pappa and forward Cristian Nazarit for Wednesday’s match.

While Marco Pappa will miss tomorrow's game, Brek Shea should be on the bench Wednesday night if needed in an emergency.

"I spoke to Jurgen and the idea was to have [Shea] come back after the first game," Hyndman said. "But because of an injury to [Landon] Donovan, he felt like he needed him. So after the US game, Brek is going to fly out to Chicago and he will be on the bench with us."

Jurgen Klinsmann revealed after practice yesterday that he has had teams call him about Shea, but that he is happy with his development in Dallas

“We are really pleased with his development. Schellas is doing an amazing job with him. We get him for a couple of days when we are all together and we see the results of his work,” said Klinsmann. “I really don’t mind if he says he’s staying here. He brings a lot to the table for MLS and Dallas. He is still growing. “

Klinsmann also mentioned a player that he thinks is forming a good partnership with Shea

“We saw a continuing of a partnership with Timmy Chandler and Brek Shea,” Klinsmann said. “We saw this in Belgium and they are feeling more comfortable each time we play. This partnership is something they enjoy. Brek continues to grow into a better and better player and he’s really maturing.”

This afternoon is one of the great days in international qualifying as we have a couple of huge games on the final day of group stage qualifying for Euro 2012. Dale Johnson of Soccernet breaks down all the scenarios

The two teams are separated by a single point and will meet in Paris on Tuesday. France, missing several key players due to injury, must avoid defeat and Bosnia have to win to qualify automatically and avoid the play-offs.
